“Raise your glass if you are wrong in all the right ways. All my underdogs who will never, never be anything but loud and nitty gritty, dirty little freaks.” – Pink
Yesterday was Canadian Thanksgiving. Although I’m in San Diego and won’t be celebrating until November, I still felt drawn to think of all the things I’m thankful for.
I know that lately I’ve been posting a lot of San Diego love, but I truly am thankful for Canada because it shaped my life. Growing up wasn’t always good to me and sometimes I feel as though Canada just filled my life with hardships. But deep inside I know that it was the perfect formula to mold me into the lady I am today. So how can I be anything but grateful?
I am thankful for all the amazing women I know, both Canadian and American. Strong runners, strong characters, and strong examples. I always felt like I was alone in the way that I was. That no other woman thought or felt like I did. Now I know there are others like me. Other girls with demons in their pasts who turned things around. Who aren’t afraid anymore.
I am thankful that I was a freak for so long. Thankful that I was left out before I was included. That I was last before I was first. I’m thankful there was a day I wasn’t good enough. Because it makes my victories today taste that much sweeter.
I am thankful that I still get lost when I run too fast. Because it forces me to slow down. But I am thankful that I went fast. And I am thankful I made so many wrong turns. Because now that I’ve finally found my path, I know where those other trails lead.
I’m thankful that nobody understood me. Because I learned to express myself better.
I am thankful that I beat the crap out of every bully I ever met.
I am thankful I couldn’t get a date. Because I got smart instead.
And I am thankful nobody believed in me. Because I proved them wrong.
So this video is for all the awesome ladies I know, and those I haven’t met yet.
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving.
