I’m starting to slip.

My marathon training is getting pretty intense and I’m starting to have doubts in my ability to keep up.

Currently, I am going to the gym twice a week for plyo and upper body work in addition to running about five times a week. I have run every distance from 1-5 hours.

I am currently a carb-consuming machine. I am grocery shopping around three times a week and it seems that I am eating food faster than I can buy it or cook it. If I don’t eat, I am physically incapable of finishing my runs. I find it much harder to pre-plan my meals at this point, and it makes complete sense to me why athletes need a separate person responsible for feeding them. I’m just trying to take it one day at a time.

On top of that, the arrival of August sort of freaked me out. I can’t believe the summer is almost over! It suddenly dawned on me that this is the only summer I’m going to get for 2010 and I haven’t even done anything yet except for train.

I strongly believe in balance and in my need to go to the beach as often as possible. So I am currently in prioritizing mode. Something needs to give, at least for the rest of this month. My rest days are vanishing into thin air.

Here are some of my options:

1. Cut down my gym sessions to once a week. (I think this is definitely happening)

2. Stop blogging for the rest of August. (Mass panic in the blogosphere!)

3. Blog only once a week for the rest of August. (Panic on a lesser scale)

4. Blog mostly about training updates and posts that I don’t need to heavily research (the research is the most time-consuming part) for the rest of August. (But would this translate into lower-quality posts that disappoint my readers?)

I’m also going to speak to my trainers and see if there are any other options they can give me. I haven’t made any decisions yet, but I thought I would just put this out there. And so, the words of the day are: priorities and balance. I’ve got to make this work somehow. Stay tuned.
