Good luck at Mississauga! It’s a fast course. I did my best time (1:50) there without any real prep. Still debating whether or not to do it this year. Probably will.

Vanessa,
I just completed my first Sprint Triathlon last weekend in 1 hour 49 minutes with minimal training – only in about a 40 day period. The Sprint is the shortest of triathlon distances. Typically it is a half mile swim, 12.5 mile bike, 3.1 mile run. I wasn’t swimming or biking before I started to train but I caught on real quick. Now I’m hooked and I want to do more. It’s exhilarating and definitely worth doing!

Just popped back over here to refresh on who you are. I also strive to be a triathlete, but right now training for my 1st HM. I hope to do my 1st sprint tri early next year. I have no doubt that you will be a fantastic triathlete, you have the mental toughness for it for sure.

Hi Vanessa;
I was just cruising around your fantastic blog. I wasn’t a very good swimmer when I started doing triathlons. I studied the “Total Immersion” method, it worked out very well. You can watch the youtube videos, check out the website and books etc.

Here’s a question for you about running barefoot…rarely do it, but walk barefoot as much as possible. Outside in summer, in home and at the gym in the winter. Since starting with the barefoot shoes 2 summers ago, my feet(or sometimes just foot) are really sore. I do have high arches and a high instep. I guess I feel it”s dropping and that might be a problem. It is the top of my foot gets tight, my arch, and the inside, below my ankle bone…any ideas? It can come and go, but mostly stays. Thanks! I love barefoot!!!

Hey Kelly – it usually takes a while to transition so your foot may be adapting. Try reading Ken Bob Saxton’s book Barefoot Running Step by Step. Great resource, even if you’re not a runner. It might give you some better answers. Good luck!
